The article considers the current trends of self-study among students of technical universities. In this connection, the authors present a theoretical analysis of self-education activities available. Consequently, the authors suggest a systematic technique aimed at engineering students’ self-study skills formation and development. The article also includes some practical recommendations for university teaching staff.

The article considers the prospects of teaching biotechnology to university and high school students. Thus biotech industry plays a primary role in many countries, being a branch of science that demonstrates a rapid development. In this connection, the authors give a description of practical training on biotechnology and microbiology for high school students.

The article deals with some issues of intellectual property in the Russian Federation. In this connection, the author studies the curricula of Mordovia State University in order to identify the courses that deal with intellectual property. The author proves the need for the introduction of a special university course of intellectual property basics for both technical students and students of the humanities. Particularly, the study analyzes the objectives and goals of university students’ training in intellectual property basics.

The article considers the use ICT (information and computer technologies) at Russian and literature classes for technical school students. The author studies the techniques and methods of stirring up student’s cognitive abilities by means of multimedia technologies. As a result, the efficiency of school teaching improves considerably.

The article reviews the software for electronic devices and circuits simulation used at higher schools. In this connection, the study considers the simulation knowledge and skills compulsory for an electronic engineer of the present day. Particularly, the author focuses on the specifics of teaching computer simulation at laboratory classes.
