The article deals with some issues of intellectual property in the Russian Federation. In this connection, the author studies the curricula of Mordovia State University in order to identify the courses that deal with intellectual property. The author proves the need for the introduction of a special university course of intellectual property basics for both technical students and students of the humanities. Particularly, the study analyzes the objectives and goals of university students’ training in intellectual property basics.

In this connection, the study considers the simulation knowledge and skills compulsory for an electronic engineer of the present day.
