Linguistic Representation of Gender Stereotypes in English Media Discourse

Abstract

The article presents a study of linguistic mechanisms in the formation of gender stereotypes in media discourse. Considering the headlines of English newspaper articles, the ways of representing gender stereotypes in mass media are analyzed. The author concludes that media discourse not only supports traditional gender stereotypes but also contributes to the creation of new ones.
