Assessment of the development state of the anti-corruption culture of the future bachelor of law in the educational process of a law university

Shtukarev N.A.

Abstract

High rates of manifestation of corrupt behaviour in the professional activities of law enforcement officials are the result of shortcomings in their professional education. Within the framework of the conducted empirical research, we set the goal: to assess the development state of the anti-corruption culture of future bachelors of law in the educational process of a law university. To achieve this goal, two groups of methods are used: empirical – a questionnaire survey of law students and an interpretive analysis of the obtained factual material, and theoretical – an analytical study of scientific literature on the research problem. The factors that indicate a low level of development of anti-corruption culture in a law university are revealed: terminological reduction of the phenomenon of corruption and the associated stereotyping of students’ ideas about it; underestimation of cultural descriptors of corrupt behaviour; fetishization and absolutization of criminal law methods of opposition corruption. It is concluded that it is necessary to eliminate the imbalance between sectoral (actually law) and philosophical and cultural disciplines in the educational process of a law university, as well as to ensure the involvement of students in educational anti-corruption activities organized by a law university.

THEORY AND METHODS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

Short videos on the “TikTok” platform as a means of developing sociocultural skills in English language learners

Gorobtsov E.V., Lopatin R.D., Mitchell P.J.

Abstract

The tense epidemiological situation caused by the extremely rapid spread of COVID-19 has accelerated the transition of educational institutions to distance learning, which, in turn, has entailed colossal changes in the choice of teaching tools and made pedagogical innovations an integral part of the educational process. However, the importance of online communities in learning was noted even before the transition to distance learning, since many teachers used social networks as an effective channel of communication with their students. In addition to communication, social platforms can be used to achieve other goals, including solving educational problems. Despite the fact that social platforms were initially created for group communication and creativity and were not associated with education, every year they are becoming an increasingly common means of exchanging information and organizing the educational process. Social platforms may help managing a wide variety of educational tasks and solve the problem of organizing a productive learning process. The study considers the role of videos in foreign language teaching and the educational potential of short videos from TikTok, their advantages and possibility of integration into the educational process in order to increase the efficiency and quality of education, and the role of the teacher in organization of such activities.

Teaching English on a linguocognitive basis: a phraseological aspect

Motov S.V.

Abstract

Phraseological units are a significant element of English. Being culturally conditioned, these units reflect the peculiarities of conceptualization of reality by native speakers. We substantiate the possibility of teaching the phraseological level of English on a linguocognitive basis within the framework of the communicative-cognitive approach. The importance and prospects of the communicative-cognitive approach to teaching English in the current educational reality has been substantiated. We present experimental studies that prove the high potential of foreign language learning on a linguocognitive basis. Classifications of phraseological units in the English language, proposed both in the field of traditional linguistics and cognitive linguistics, are considered. The study connects idiomatic expressions with cognitive mechanisms such as conceptual metaphor and provides examples of conceptual metaphors in English in relation to respective idiomatic expressions. We describe successful experimental studies on teaching English phraseological units on a linguocognitive basis. The importance of group work in the study of English phraseological units is substantiated and an example of the distribution of roles during group work is provided. The study considers possible difficulties and peculiarities of teaching English phraseological units and suggests ways of overcoming them. The study substantiates the importance of using cognitive linguistics as a linguistic basis for teaching English based on the communicativecognitive approach.

The role of corpus analysis in the study of English loanwords and in teaching a second foreign language (on the example of French and Italian)

Zimina E.I., Gubanov D.A.

Abstract

We argue that corpus linguistics should be used as a tool for teaching students a second foreign language. The researchers focus on the study of English loanwords in French and Italian. We propose a new approach to teaching a second foreign language to students who are fluent in English as a first foreign language. We emphasize the importance of concordance in linguistics and teaching a second foreign language. We analyze the works of the methodologists who suggest using corpus technologies in the language classroom to develop students’ lexical skills. We touch upon the characteristics of corpus technologies, define the term “loanwords” and refer to the concept of “English borrowings”. The researchers analyze the role of English loanwords in French and Italian, and identify the spheres where English borrowings are mainly used. Based on the language of the media, we study the models of assimilation of English loanwords in French and Italian. We focus on the most popular English loanwords used in France and Italy, provide statistical data on their use and analyze their grammatical and semantic assimilation. We analyze the most popular loanwords from the English language; study their origin, language context and the way they were modified according to the patterns of the receiving languages. It is advisable to implement the proposed approach in teaching the vocabulary of a second foreign language and to use other tools of corpus linguistics as teaching methods.

Genesis of digital technologies in teaching students a foreign language in a blended learning environment

Nikolaenko I.S., Pribytkova A.A., Pustovalova T.A.

Abstract

Digital technologies quickly and organically entered the life of a modern person. Moreover, the informatization of society has influenced the digitalization of education. Over the past 10–15 years, a solid body of scientific methodic works has appeared on the use of modern digital technologies in the development of foreign language speech skills and the development of students’ language skills, the development of their socio-cultural, intercultural, pragmatic and other types of competencies. Despite the linguodidactic potential and innovativeness of new methods of language teaching based on digital technologies, until 2019 the volume of use of information and communication technologies in the educational process was small. The 2019 coronavirus pandemic forced scientists and practicing teachers in extreme conditions to realistically assess the richness of the choice of digital technologies and rethink the need for each specific technology to solve specific educational problems. This is how the process of “withering away” of some technologies or “absorption” of some technologies by others began. A review of methodic works on the development of methods of foreign language teaching based on e-mail, web forum, blog technology, social service “Twitter”, wiki technology, podcasts and electronic text corpus is carried out. As a result, a conclusion is made about the relevance of four digital technologies that are integrated into modern university educational platforms. These include: blog technology, wiki technology, podcasts, and electronic corpus.

Principles of teaching foreign language intercultural interaction of students based on the case method

Danilin R.A.

Abstract

The case method is one of the methods of problem learning, which consists in solving a problem situation or case by students. The study and discussion of the case, as well as the preparation and presentation of the solution to the problem, takes place in a foreign language. Of particular relevance is the solution by students of cases containing cultural conflicts. From this perspective, the use of cases in foreign language classes will contribute to the development of students’ skills in foreign language intercultural interaction. The effectiveness of the appropriate methods for teaching foreign language intercultural interaction of students based on the case method is directly dependent on the chosen general didactic and methodic approaches to teaching, which, in turn, are implemented through the principles. The methodological basis of teaching in this study is the competence-based, systemic, personality-activity, socio-cultural, intercultural, multicultural and communicative-ethnographic approaches. These approaches are implemented in practice through the principles on the basis of which the selection of subject-thematic content of education and the development of a system of problematic cultural tasks are carried out. The following teaching principles are described in detail: the principle of consciousness and activity, the principle of accessibility and feasibility, the principle of consistency, the principle of individualization of training, the principle of functionality, the principle of speech orientation of teaching, the principle of dialogue of cultures, the principle of didactic cultural congruence, the principle of cultural variability, the principle of cultural reflection, the principle of dominance of problematic cultural assignments.

Shevchenko M.A., Ryumin B.A., Tavdgiridze L.A., Belov D.N.

Abstract

This study considers the process of training of language support specialists for International Army Games (IAG) as well as its problems. General information on IAG (history, fields, geography, organisational structure, etc.) is given with its correlation to the language support tasks. In connection with the annually increasing interest in this type of competition (17 participating countries in 2015 and 32 in 2020) and, accordingly, increasing needs for interpreters, justifies the relevance of this study. Specific IAG situations where translation is being carried out are given. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the low degree of coverage of the topic and the lack of a centralized algorithm for the preparation of interpreters for this international event. Considering the nature of the linguistic tasks performed during the preparation and conduct of the IAG, the basic requirements to the specialists being sent are formed. The experience of participation as an interpreter at the IAG is presented and analyzed, the problematic issues in terms of linguistic training and background knowledge are pointed out. A comparison of the two methods of training interpreters involved in the IAG, the main advantages and disadvantages of each of the two methods is given. As a result of the above-mentioned analysis a list of recommendations on the preparation of specialists in linguistic support for IAG is formed, taking into account the specific situations in which the translation is carried out. A conclusion about the further development of this direction and the ways of solving the indicated problems is made.

Development of motive as an incentive to success at the initial stage of learning music

Dolgushina M.Y., Dolgushina A.A.

Abstract

We present material on the problem of intensification of teaching music to preschool students from the standpoint of the analysis of pedagogical interaction aimed at the development of positive motivation. Due to the many diverse interests, it is difficult for a child at this age to focus on music only and form positive motivation. The motive is understood as the rationale for a sustainable desire for a certain activity. Motives, like other personality traits of a preschool student, are unstable and varied. The child is susceptible to many constructive and destructive factors of development, which often distract him and extinguish the motive for achieving musical success. Strengthening of motivation and appropriate methodological support of the personality-oriented technology of teaching music at the initial stage is required. The development of motive is crosscutting and accompanies the cognitive and effective stages. For each stage, a selection of creative tasks is presented – methodic support, since reproductive activity quickly reduces interest and the motive is replaced by another. For the majority, a combination of various directions of creative activity is effective. The ideal conditions for keeping motive in the course of learning is a highly qualified teacher who knows personality-oriented technologies, and an interested preschool student, a bearer of musical abilities at a sufficient level. And the main thing is their benevolent interaction. The expected results are presented. That is, the development of the motive for achievements in music at the initial stage will allow the teacher to retain interest and, on the basis of the motivation of the future musician, carry out from small performances to success.

The study of the former state peasantry of the late 19th – early 20th centuries in Soviet and contemporary historiography

Sysoev V.L.

Abstract

Attention is focused on issues related to the study of the post-reform evolution of the state peasantry. The views of historians of different periods on the nature of the socio-economic development of the former state peasants in the late 19th – early 20th centuries are analyzed. It is argued that the stated problems have been relatively little studied, due to insufficient representation in the sources. As a result, the chronological framework of almost all category studies is limited to the 60s–70s of the 19th century. It is noted that the early works are characterized by a predominantly economic agenda with a subsequent shift to socio-political issues. On the whole, Soviet historians agreed on the initial economic superiority of the state village and the more dynamic nature of social processes among state peasants. However, these advantages could not be realized in the socio-economic relations that developed at that time and taking into account the nature of the state agrarian policy. The current stage is marked by an increase in interest in the state village, against the background of the expansion of the conceptual and methodological scientific arsenal. The number of works based on regional materials has noticeably increased. Analysis of these works allows us to conclude that the main attention of researchers is focused on economic aspects; social aspects are studied less and are predominantly general in nature.

Formation and activity of labor squads in the Russian Empire during the First World War

Chubarov A.I.

Abstract

The history of the creation and activity of student labor brigades on the territory of the Russian Empire is considered. They were supposed to replace men in peasant farms who had been mobilized into the ranks of the army. By the early 20th century, the agrarian Russian Empire was characterized by an excess of workers in the countryside, since a significant part of the country’s population lived in the countryside. The ruling circles of both Russia and the European powers were confident in the “inexhaustibility” of the human resources of the Russian state. However, already in the summer and autumn of 1914, a shortage of workers in rural areas began to be felt. With the subsequent mobilizations, the situation only worsened. In response to the problem, the tsarist government asked the local authorities to help the families of the mobilized lower ranks in harvesting and sowing fields. We use materials from periodicals and primary materials deposited in the archives of the cities of the Central Black Earth region about student labor brigades of the Voronezh, Kursk and Oryol Governorates. We also use information on other regions of the Russian Empire. It is assumed that labor brigades arose on a private initiative as one of the forms of mobilization of labor resources in conditions caused by a shortage of workers. Later, the initiative of educational institutions of the Minsk province received state support.

Former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Tambov Governorate after the February Revolution of 1917

Rakhmanov P.S.

Abstract

The problems of changing the position of the Ministry of Internal Affairs after the events of February–March 1917 in the Tambov Governorate are investigated. We study the state policy, the attitude of local authorities and the public to representatives of this socio-professional group, individual features of the adaptation of its representatives to new socio-political conditions. The relevance of the research is due to both significant gaps in the historiography of the issue, especially at the regional level of the study of the problem, and a certain consonance with the modern problems of Russian law enforcement agencies in the context of transformations. It is concluded that representatives of the broad popular strata and the soldier masses treated former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs extremely negatively, which was especially pronounced in the period that followed the revolutionary events of February 1917. However, the leadership of both the governorate as a whole and in individual counties pursued an ambivalent policy towards representatives of this social and professional group. On the one hand, the tasks were set for the maximum removal of former law enforcement officers from participation in public and political life, and on the other, their professional skills were in demand in the newly created militia bodies.

The Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War in the Tambov region: state and research prospects. Part 2. On the immediate and long-term consequences of the peasant anti-state armed protest

Dyachkov V.L.

Abstract

On continuous long lines of demographic and sociographic information, a complex of immediate and distant consequences for the Tambov region of the Civil War as a whole and especially the peasant uprising of 1920–1921 is considered. In the part of the demographic heritage we show, both direct irreversible losses of the Tambov population (death from a complex of suppressive causes, voluntary and forced emigration from the region, a drop in fertility, deformation of the age and gender balance, collapse of the population of the rural settlements, etc.) and indirect prolonged suppression processes and the degradation of subregional aggressive rural populations that fell under the “Antonovshchina” and its suppression (social defeat of the rebellious subregions with a subsequent decline in their socio-cultural level and greater losses in World War II, shorter life expectancy, higher morbidity). Special attention is paid to the comparative evolution of the anthropometric indicators of the male parts of the populations of all Russian regions and Tambov subregions, depending on the degree of their specific defeat by the Civil War. Shows the negative impact of “Antonovshchina” and its suppression on the general cultural Soviet activity (“productivity”) of the rebellious subregions. The methods and results of the study of the all-Russian and Tambov regional material are abundantly presented graphically.

The army and the collapse of the Habsburg Monarchy in 1918

Mironov V.V.

Abstract

The process of disorganization of the armed forces of Austria-Hungary in 1918 is considered through the prism of the national issue and the prospects for the further preservation of the Habsburg Monarchy. It is concluded that the military and diplomatic victories won in the early 1918 by Austria-Hungary were illusory and only put off the inevitable defeat of its army. Investigation of the first cases of mass withdrawal from obedience of military units in the spring and summer of 1918, showed that they were an interweaving of social, national-political and military reasons proper. At the same time, a serious discrepancy was revealed between Slovenian and Italian researchers in the interpretation of the reasons for the uprising in the 97th infantry regiment stationed in the Slovenian Radkersburg (Radgon). If for the former it was typical, following the Marxist tradition, to emphasize the social contradictions that led to the revolutionization of the army according to the “Russian model”, the latter praised the participants in the uprising from the Italian side as genuine national patriots. It is shown that the “shock force” of all the soldiers’ uprisings that broke out in the spring and summer of 1918 in the Austro-Hungarian army were servicemen who returned from Russian captivity in the spring of 1918, where some of them were imbued with revolutionary ideas. The conclusion is drawn about the extreme severity of military justice, which condemned many of the insurgents to death, which became the reason for deputy inquiries.
