Proper nouns as part of English phraseological units in the sphere of sport
Abstract
The article provides a lexical and semantic analysis of the groups of proper nouns (anthroponyms, toponyms and mythonyms) as part of English phraseological units in the sphere of sport. The most frequent group of proper nouns as a part of English sport phraseological units is revealed.


Means of expressing modality in English fiction text: functional and translation approach
Abstract
The article considers various means of expressing modality in an English fiction text. In this connection the novel "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien is analyzed. Special attention is paid to the grammatical means of expressing modality, namely the modal verbs and their functions in the sentence. The difficulties of translating the modality of an English fiction text are revealed.


Discourse markers as text organisation units
Abstract
This article aims at analyzing various theoretical approaches to defining discourse markers as an instrument of text organization. In this connection some of the classifications of discourse markers are considered. Moreover, the author demonstrates the mechanisms of realization of text cohesion and coherence by means of discourse markers.


Precedent phenomena as tool for English computer game virtual reality construction
Abstract
The article demonstrates the need for studying the usage regularities of precedent phenomena in the names of computer games. Considering the English names of computer games of the hidden object genre, the author reveals such function of the precedent phenomena as a tool for virtual reality construction.




Masculinity concept in English poetic text
Abstract
The article considers the masculinity concept in the gender perspective. The author presents an overview of the concept research in the works of modern Russian and foreign linguists. The study goal is to reveal the features of the concept realization in poetic texts. The study is based on the poetic texts of classical and contemporary English poets.


Mother tongue in teaching English in secondary schools of Turkmenistan
Abstract
The article analyzes the problem of using mother tongue in teaching English as foreign language in secondary schools of Turkmenistan. A conclusion is made that it is possible to rely on the Turkmen language while teaching English but adhering to the principles of reasonableness and temporality.


Forming linguistic competencies by developing high-order thinking skills
Abstract
The ultimate goal of the competency-based approach in teaching English as a second language is the well-established language competences. They are defined through the formation of various linguistic skills. These competencies at a high level are developed with the help of such cognitive skills as analysis, evaluation and synthesis. The development of the linguistic skills is described in the CEFR and is tested by various proficiency tests.
