Linguistic and cultural aspects of the nomination “admiration” in the English media

this article is aimed on the deep exploration of linguistic and cultural aspects of the nomination of the emotion “admiration” in the English media. The analysis of the corpus of lexical units used to express admiration goes beyond a simple listing of synonyms, revealing to a complex picture of semantic variability and cultural conditioning of the choice of specific terms. The study is not limited to the analysis of individual words, but considers the influence of a broad context – type of media (printed publications, online resources, blogs), the target audience, the publication topic and the genre - on the choice of the vocabulary, demonstrating preferences for the certain stylistic registers (formal/informal, colloquial/literary) and emotional-evaluative means. The particular attention is paid to the comparative analysis of synonyms, revealing subtle semantic differences and connotative nuances, that are often inaccessible to direct translation. The work explores the cultural implications hidden behind the apparent simplicity of positive expressions, revealing how the choice of the vocabulary reflects the cultural values and social norms of the English-speaking society.
