Abstract
the article is devoted to examining the issue of productive cases of verbs expressing multiple manners of action with the markers –SUM and –SEM. Special attention is paid to verbs formed from nouns, from verb bases, and from complex verb bases with a clearly distinguishable marker of a single manner of action provided by the affix –dyi, which is used to denote an action that indicates the multiplicity or repetition of the action. This article presents a comprehensive study of verbs of multiple manner of action ending in –dyi that require the use of the suffixes –sum and –sem. The relevance of the topic is driven by the necessity for a detailed analysis of these verb forms to understand their morphological, syntactic, and semantic characteristics in contemporary Russian. The aim of the study is to identify the specific patterns in the formation and usage of these verbs, as well as to determine the role of the suffixes –sum and –sem in the expression of action multiplicity. In implementing the research methodology, methods of corpus analysis, comparative morphological typology, and functional syntactic analysis were employed. The primary materials included texts of various genres, encompassing both literary and scientific literature, which ensured a wide scope of observations and contemporary examples of usage of the forms under consideration. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of historical transformations in the word-formation system of the Russian language, with the goal of identifying stable patterns of ending formation and accompanying morphemes. As a result of the conducted research, it was established that the suffixes –sum and –sem not only serve the function of indicating the multiplicity of an action, but also act as an important marker of the aspectual and temporal characteristics of verbs. The discovered patterns indicate that these morphological elements contribute to a more precise semantic differentiation within a range of verbs, which in turn directly influences the syntactic structure of sentences. Moreover, regional and dialectal peculiarities of usage were identified, opening prospects for further research within the framework of comparative typology. The discussion of the research results allows one to assert that the study of verbs ending in –dyi requiring –sum and –sem significantly deepens our understanding of word-formation mechanisms, which positively impacts both the theoretical and applied aspects of Russian linguistics. This work makes a significant contribution to the expansion of knowledge regarding the dynamics of language change and stimulates the development of further empirical research in this area. The obtained results indicate a high potential for the use of these verb forms in practical tasks of linguistic analysis and in methodologies for teaching the Russian language. The authors propose additional directions for future research aimed at studying the diachronic developments and variability in the use of these suffixes, which will allow for a more complete reflection of the evolutionary processes in the contemporary linguistic space.
