Abstract
the paper examines the linguodidactic aspect of teaching English using the example of translating new words and expressions in the game "Scrabble" into Russian. The author conducts a comparative analysis of linguocultural neologisms based on the works of the English writer and journalist J. Brandreth and definitions from the Collins Scrabble Dictionary in order to determine the most successful approach to teaching a foreign language (English) and replenish the vocabulary of the Russian-speaking audience in the educational environment. The need for a comprehensive consideration of the game element in the study of foreign language vocabulary, both through literary sources and with the involvement of third-party resources, in particular, online communities on this game is emphasized. It is determined that the author's dictionary compiled by J. Brandreth gives a superficial idea of neologisms due to the modest volume of the sources studied. Along with this, the importance of introducing into practice the possibilities of expanding vocabulary through a special dictionary and in-depth study of online sources as a constantly expanding lexical base of the English language is underlined.
