Comparative analysis of the sonnets of R. Gamzatov and W. Shakespeare

the article examines an innovative genre in Rasul Gamzatov's work, explores the characteristics of the poet's sonnet, and compares it with the form of the Shakespearean sonnet to identify similarities and differences. The method of comparative analysis of the sonnets of the two poets makes it possible to determine the proximity in terms of composition and artistic meaning. Both poets' sonnets consist of three quatrains and a concluding couplet. In the works selected for analysis, the lyrical heroes wage a complex inner struggle: Shakespeare's hero simultaneously loves and hates, while Gamzatov's hero is contradictory and irreconcilable. However, Shakespeare's lyrical hero overcomes internal disagreement and forgives the lyrical heroine. He acts within the framework of the European worldview tradition. Gamzatov's hero adheres to the national mentality of a highlander who considers himself right in his convictions. Despite general external signs, as well as compositional and artistic-semantic similarities, each of the sonnets is framed by unique national and mental characteristics.
