Abstract
this paper, grounded in the semiotic theory of the Moscow-Tartu Semiotic School, examines the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky’s translation of Tang dynasty poetry. Focusing on his renditions of “Quiet Night Thought” and “Deer Enclosure”, the study explores how Brodsky reconstructed poetic symbols to transform linguistic texts into cultural meanings. As both poet and translator, he integrated Chinese imagery and rhythm into the Russian context, revealing translation as an act of cultural re-encoding and poetic innovation, rather than mere linguistic transfer.
