Abstract
this article explores the impact of technological convergence on modern media and communication. Convergence is defined as the merging of various technologies, transforming how multimedia content is consumed and reshaping the roles of information producers and consumers. The focus is on how digital platforms have expanded interactive possibilities, fostering a culture of participation where users actively influence the creation and distribution of content. The article highlights positive outcomes such as the rise of multimedia journalism and the removal of communication barriers, alongside negative effects including infodemia, echo chambers, and declining content quality. It also examines the linguistic consequences of convergence, such as the spread of internet slang, abbreviations, and altered language structures. Examples from British youth slang and online discourse demonstrate how new forms of interaction affect language and cultural norms. Ultimately, the article reveals the complex nature of convergence as a multi-layered process that influences not only technology but also society, culture, and language.
