Features of fear display in students with different levels of apathy

fear and apathy are considered to be psychological states that destabilize the subject's activity. The relationship between these phenomena is ambiguous. On the one hand, they are mutually exclusive. On the other hand, they are interconnected. The study of fears and apathy in the student age is relevant due to the formation of professional and personal identity, the development of autonomy, and the observed increase in fear and apathy among students. The article discusses the results of an empirical study of fears among students with different levels of apathy. It was found that students with a high level of apathy have a high intensity of fears. Students with low apathy demonstrate "normal" fears. Statistically significant differences between respondents with different levels of apathy were found in relation to fears that are more related to changes and evaluation: fear of changes in personal life, fear of the future, and fear of public speaking; fear related to sexual function. It is worth noting that fear of change and fear of the future are both existential fears. There is a tendency for these fears to become more intense as the level of apathy increases. This is also true for fears that do not have statistically significant differences. In terms of fears related to physical health (fear of heart problems and fear of contracting a disease), apathy is the least prevalent. This suggests a connection between apathy and avoidance behavior, fear of failure, and social maladjustment. It is believed that apathy does not eliminate fear, but rather contributes to its fixation due to a decrease in coping resources.
