Abstract

The article deals with one of the key moments in the history of Vietnam at the end of the 18th – beginning 19th centuries, when the fate of the Nguyen dynasty and the “Great South” empire it created was being decided. The question of the role of the Catholic Bishop of Adran and the help of French officers Nguyen Anh, which has been controversial to date, is also being investigated.
