It is characterized by the development of socio-cultural and research projects focused on the development of urban socio-cultural communities, and creation of an interesting urban space, a comfortable urban environment, contributing to the sustainable development of the territory. We systematized the approaches that have developed in foreign practice of design decisions in the field of socio-cultural urbanism of international, regional and local scales, involving the preservation and rational use of cultural heritage objects, the development of an active life position and a sense of belonging among the population. The results of the most notable sociological and design justifications for the introduction of innovations in the urban environment, typical for the first decades of the 21st century, are presented.
