Abstract
A study is conducted on how the phenomenon of a smile is related to stable expressions in the Russian and English languages. The origin of the term “emoticon” has been established, and its influence on people from different countries has also been studied. A connection has been established between the frequency of use of the concepts “laughter” and “smile” with manifestations of smiling in the English and Russian languages. A comparative analysis of stable expressions in the English and Russian languages is carried out, and a connection is established between the frequency of use of these expressions and the behavior of residents of English- and Russian-speaking countries. The reason why Russians are considered “cold” from the point of view of people living in Western and European countries is also considered.
