Abstract
The article is a case-study of reception of the Old Icelandic literary heritage in the Icelandic literature of the late 20th-21st centuries. The poem “Blóðhófnir” by Gerður Kristný is based on the Eddaic plot of Freyrs wooing to Gerður. The authors strategy in handling Old Norse myths has the result, that interpreting the already existing plot grows into creating a completely new one, its connection to the Old Icelandic literature becomes weaker, but its universality moves to the forefront.
