Abstract

This article is dedicated to the study of defeated expectancy effect as one of the mechanisms for creating an ironic modality of utterance based on the material of the TV-program «heute show» on the ZDF TV channel. The study showed that the effect of defeated expectancy is one of the most common means intentionally used by the producer in order to form an ironic modality and subsequently effectively influence the recipient, drawing his attention to the current public problem under discussion.
