Egocentrism Among Academic Bilinguals Tested in English, German and Russian

Abstract

The article presents the results of a study on egocentrism as a personality trait and its state among academic bilinguals who are studying or have already completed their studies at the departments of English and German. The study used a questionnaire, expert assessment of the students' proficiency in English and German, and egocentric association tests in both the students' native language (Russian) and foreign languages. The correlation of the examinees' egocentrism values was confirmed when tested in three languages. Higher egocentrism values were found in English and German, and lower values were observed during testing in Russian.
