The Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures celebrated its 95th anniversary in 2021. The founder of the department and its first head was Professor A.F. Loleit, who was one of the founders of the modern theory of reinforced concrete.

At all stages of mass construction in the country the department occupied leading positions in a number of scientific directions, enriching the practice with theoretical and experimental researches, experience of construction, solution of practical design problems, showing perspective ways in the field of development of new constructive decisions, participated in preparation of regulatory documents, scientific-technical and educational materials, which later formed the basis for full-fledged training of specialists and the base for scientific researches.

Many major scientific and technical problems were born at the department and the results of their solutions became common knowledge, and the names of the department professors such as A.F. Loleit, P.L. Pasternak, V.I. Murashov, V.N. Baikov, E.E. Sigalov, B.S. Rastorguev, N.N. Skladnev, A.E. Zabegaev and many others are well known to the scientific and engineering community not only in Russia, but also abroad.

In the year of the 95th anniversary of the Department it was decided to create a scientific and technical Journal of Reinforced Concrete Structures.
