Video analysis as a tool for improving the tactical training of the student ice hockey team

the article presents the possibilities of field observation (application of video analysis) in three situational tasks for studying the speed of decision-making in student ice hockey. Based on video analysis of 11 games from the 23rd-24th and 13 games from the 24th-25th seasons of the student ice hockey team of the Moscow City Pedagogical University (hereinafter referred to as MCPU) of the student hockey league, the time it took for the team's game fives to solve situational problems was recorded. During the study, 24 matches were analyzed by reviewing recordings of the Moscow State Pedagogical Univ. student ice hockey team matches for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 competitive seasons. Each hockey match lasted an average of 2-2.5 hours. Each game was divided into segments, which recorded the teams' appearances on the ice and the time it took them to complete three situational tasks. Study Procedure. Recording of the broadcasts of matches in the student ice hockey league was carried out with a powerful Sony aX53 camera (continuous shooting speed: 50-60 frames per second, resolution – 1920 by 1080, shutter speed – 120, exposure shift - +0.7-1). The average time for solving each situational problem for the team's playing fives over two playing seasons was assessed, the indicators of the two playing seasons were compared, and recommendations were made for improving the tactical training of the student national team. Results. Solving situational problems during the student national hockey team's training process, as well as carefully selecting lineups, improves the team's tactical skills. This is reflected in a reduction in the speed of players' decision-making. The first team of the Moscow City Pedagogical University student teams reduced their time solving all situational problems by 43,5% in the 24-25 season compared to the previous one. The second team reduced their time by 21,4%. The third team reduced their time by 10,26%. This article can help coaches of student ice hockey teams recognize the influence of situational variables on the outcome of a match in order to adapt their game plans and develop more effective strategies, as well as to work out the falling elements in the training process.
