Abstract

The phenomenon of transition radiation and the analogy between acoustic and optical effects are discussed. Examples are given. The reflection of a single broadband acoustic pressure pulse from a thin, highly contrasting inhomogeneity is calculated. The process of acoustic field generation during abrupt braking of a sphere moving at subsonic speed is analyzed. The possibility of radiation by a vortex generated during the formation of an acoustic flow is discussed, taking into account hydrodynamic nonlinearity. The process of rapid bending of the interface of immiscible liquids caused by a pulse of radiation force, as well as the radiation of a body flying over an uneven surface, are considered.
