Abstract

This article is devoted to the Black Lives Matter protest movement and its representation in high-quality American media of varying degrees of political orientation. The article examines the period from May 25 (the murder of George Floyd) to September 30, 2020, i.e., the period of the greatest protest activity. The paper identifies the specifics of publication activity on the topic of Black Lives Meter on news portals and websites (The Oregonian, The Seattle Times, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, New York Post, NewsNation). With the help of content analysis of media publications, patterns and differences in the coverage of BLM protests are established depending on the political preferences of the editorial offices, as well as on the city in which the source of the publication is based. The most common types of publications are identified, and a chronology of key events is established.
