Abstract

The background of the provincial academic archive commissions (PAAC), their activities and signi­ficance for the source base formation of local studies are considered. Regulatory acts on their organization are presented, the sequence of appearance in various provinces is revealed, the main directions of activity are indicated, and the main activists are named. The activities of the Penza Academic Archive Commission based on the documents from fund No. 131, stored in the State Archive of the Penza Region are described.
