Aspects of comparative study of word formation in the English and Russian languages

the article provides a comprehensive analysis of the aspects of comparative study of word formation in English and Russian. From a comparative perspective, the question of the degree and nature of the intersection of the formal semantic characteristics of word-formation categories is of particular interest. The methods of comparative and typological research are determined by the relationship of the languages used for comparison. This synchronous juxtaposition of languages at the word-formation level allows us to move from genetically identical affixes to the peculiarities of their functioning in each of the languages. It also makes it possible to proceed from certain bases and affixes of one language and identify the degree of functional correspondence of identical word-forming elements of another. A detailed analysis of the material should be carried out within the framework of the established groups of configurations that represent the connecting link. A set of suffixes, prefixes, confixes, and affixes is to be studied for the implementation of this configuration of semantic features in English and Russian. The derivation methods in the analyzed languages are similar. The contrast is that affixation is a productive way in Russian. Due to the analytical structure of the English language, this technique is less productive here.
