Resumo
The aim of this research is identifying the peculiarities and the linguistic status of the specific lexical units of Russian Sign Language used for recording Russian Sign Language signs. Among the methods used in the research are the following: questionnaire survey, convenience sampling, linguistic analysis, extralinguistic analysis, complex discourse analysis. The research material includes examples collected in the course of the survey of Deaf and Hard of Hearing respondents, as well as the texts written by the native signers of Russian Sign Language. The research findings enabled the authors to answer the question whether the specific lexical units of Russian Sign Language should be treated as language borrowings or as elements of the written form of Russian Sign Language.
