Resumo
The purpose of the research is to analyse phonetic features of contemporary British and American pronunciation standards and to describe the ones, which present similar tendencies in their development. The auditory analysis of speech samples of young British and American informants was performed and the systematic review of the data on the prevalence of certain segmental and suprasegmental features was offered. The results of the experiment revealed RP and GA common tendencies in sound realization (weak vowel merger and yod-dropping), word stress placement, rhythm, timbre (creaky voice) and melodic characteristics (Uptalk).
