Abstract
Oronyms are of significant interest not only as toponymic units, but also as means of objectification of the category of literary space. This article discusses such text-forming functions of oronyms in the literary space of the Swiss Alpine (mountain) prose as markers and identifiers of space, cognitive tools for constructing a mental map of space, a reference point in the coordinate system of a fictional space, a source of background information and others. Many oronyms are symbolically loaded names, so that they can bring additional connotations to the text or become the basis of a language game.
