Abstract

Existential philosophy focuses on the issue of the uniqueness of human existence. Existentialism in fiction mostly takes the form of reflections on loneliness, human alienation, the authenticity of life and death. Since the 20th century existentialism in Russian literature has echoed a worldwide trend related to ‘’existential anxiety’’, personal loneliness, anxiety, alienation from the world and despair at the imperfection of life. This article reveals existential motifs in A. Bitov’s early work of the 1960s.
