Abstract

The article presents some findings of the research into Mongolian dialects carried out over a century, with a primary focus on their classification, as well as the challenges associated with defining their boundaries. The study offers an analytical study of the statements of leading scientists in this field, including Sh. Luvsanvandan, B.Ya. Vladimirtsov, and N. Poppe and others. Despite the disputes and uncertainty concerning the differentiation of Mongolian dialects, the Khalkha dialect is considered to be the literary norm of modern Mongolian, and its study using modern research methods remains relevant for oriental studies.
