Abstract

The article examines the causes of the appearance of ugly, deformed figures in artistic pictures. The study uses an interdisciplinary approach. In addition to the problems of art criticism and aesthetics, it touches upon the issues of the psychophysiology of the pictorial act. The ways of both intentional and unintentional creation of ugly images in paintings as manifestations of higher and lower pictorial motor skills are shown.
