The article examines new directions of scientific and technological advance in industries of leading counties. It is in particular concentrates on revolutionary direction of scientific and technological progress - nanotechnology. It highlights main stages of the newest direction in science and technology since ancient times and up to nowadays. The author pays attention to conceptual framework of the subject. The experience of developing and financing of nanotechnology in foreign countries has also been examined. World achievements of nanotechnology have been mentioned. The role of nanotechnology in the forming of new Russian economy has been revealed. Industry sectors problems have been linked to social aspects.
