Genocide of the Armenians committed by young Turkish government of Osmond Turkey was also of religious shade. The young Turks considered the ideals of pan Islamism and pan Turkism to be at the heart of their government. The Armenians were exterminated for they were Christians practicing the Armenian Church religion. That explains the fact that representatives of Armenian priesthood were annihilated and religious buildings of the Armenian Church were destroyed. Even when small part of the Armenians being under pressure adopted Islam, they were also deported, like Armenians-Moslems.
