Аннотация
The article deals with the history of New England at the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th centuries, when the ideological and intellectual climate was undergoing serious transformation under the influence of scientific and Enlightenment ideas. The authors analyze the views of Rev. Cotton Mather (1663-1728) on religion and science. The Puritan clergyman was one of the first in colonial America to understand the importance of scientific discoveries and to show that the new science and philosophy were an incentive to religion.
