Аннотация
Главной целью является систематизация и представление имеющихся в письменных источниках упоминаний и описаний, касающихся личности и деятельности занзибарского дельца, одной из самых влиятельных фигур Восточной и Центральной Африки середины - второй половины XIX в. Хамеда бин Мохаммеда аль-Мурджеби, более известного как Типпу-Тип. Корпус источников составляют мемуары и путевые заметки европейских путешественников, колониальных деятелей и миссионеров, лично знавших и встречавшихся с Типпу-Типом. Рассматриваются основные черты образа Типпу-Типа, его эволюция от «самого замечательного человека среди арабов, суахили и полукровок» до «главного работорговца», олицетворения всего зла арабской работорговли, под флагом борьбы с которой происходил раздел Африки колониальными державами. Особое внимание уделяется конфликту Типпу-Типа с Г.М. Стэнли в ходе печально известной экспедиции по спасению Эмина-паши; также рассматриваются свидетельства участия Типпу-Типа и подчиненных ему людей в набегах на местное население Центральной Африки с целью захвата рабов и слоновой кости.
