The journal was founded in 2002. From 2002 to 2011, the journal was an electronic publication. Since 2011, the journal "Bulletin of the Smolensk State Medical Academy" has been a print publication. Since 2015, the journal has been included in the List of leading Russian peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for the publication of the main scientific results of dissertations for the degrees of Doctor of Science and Candidate of Science. The journal is included in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) system.
