Abstract
This article is devoted to the series of tapestries entitled “The Labours of Hercules”, created around 1560, whose borders feature medallions with satirical grotesque scenes borrowed from the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch and the works of his followers. The aim of the study is to identify the ways in which Bosch’s images spread and to show their role and semantic significance using the example of South Netherlandish tapestries intended for the Spanish nobility. The article examines the sources of iconography, studies the origin of the items, as well as their perception in the Early Modern period. The study is devoted to the little-studied topic of the influence of Bosch’s images on the decorative and applied arts of the 16th century and sheds light on monuments that have not been discussed previously in the context of studying the reminiscences of Hieronymus Bosch’s work.
