Systematic Study of Arid Territories

Regional distribution patterns of soils in delta ecosystems and their potential use on different continents

Zalibekov Z., Biarslanov A., Mamaev S., Asgerova D., Galimova U., Sultankhamedov M.

摘要

New approaches using mathematical methods have been developed for estimation of the effect of undrained plain heights in delta ecosystems on soil diversity. This makes it possible to consider the effect of positive elements in the delta plain located below the zero marks that favoring the formation of local drainage. Models have been developed from the height gradients of the Terek–Kuma Lowland by the least squares method. The proposed method has revealed the soil diversity and spatial parameters characteristic of alluvialdelta coastal plains common to different continents.

Gypsification processes and porosity changes in soils from southern Iran (Jooyom region-Fars province)

Fazeli S., Abtahi A., Poch R., Abbaslou H.

摘要

Population growth are leading to intensive and extensive land use even in gypsiferous and gypseous soils which resulted in a greater demand for information of these common soils. The soils of Jooyom region located in southern Iran were studied in order to estimate the rates of soil formation processes, such as gypsum accumulation, and how they affect soil porosity. Soils have gypsum contents ranging from 0.02 to 42.1%, which increases with depth. In the field, gypsum accumulations are described as powdery nodules and vermiform gypsum. Different kinds of micromorphological pedofeatures related to gypsum are observed, which include infillings and coatings of gypsum crystals, typic nodules and crystal twins. Nodules of micrite pseudomorphs after lenticular gypsum are found, where calcite has substituted the original gypsum, which are indicators of a more arid climate in the past, followed by a more humid one. The extent, morphology and size of gypsum crystals depend on the pedogenic processes. In regard to micromorphological classification of gypsiferous soil materials, they are classified in two groups of Eogypsic and Gypsic. Soil porosity changes related to gypsum accumulation were studied and quantified by image analysis. The understanding the retention and movement of water and air in the soil; therefore, these results have a practical importance for land use and management of gypsiferous soils.

Utilization of cosmic factors by pasture phytocenosis on various types of soils in the northwestern Caspian Sea region

Hasanov G., Asvarova T., Gadzhiev M., Ahmedova Z., Abdulaeva A., Bashirov R.

摘要

The research data on the potential productivity of light-chestnut and meadow-chestnut soils of semidesert, the species composition of pasture phytocenosis under reservation conditions, and utilization coefficient of photosynthetically active radiation were analyzed with respect to the annual and seasonal water and temperature conditions.

Geoinformation system of assessment of the susceptibility of arid area landscapes in the Terek-Kuma Lowland to pollution

Gazaliev I., Idrisov I., Achmedov A.

摘要

The Terek-Kuma Lowland is characterized by a wide range of anthropogenic impacts. At the same time, with respect to other arid regions of Dagestan, the anthropogenic impact on the geological environment (hydrocarbon and artesian water extraction) is of great importance. The extensive development of sandy soils and the development of animal husbandry also lead to a number of significant geoenvironmental problems. Assessment of the current geoenvironmental state of the area shows that the degree of degradation of the landscapes is small, while the possibility of their self-regeneration is at a high level.

Structures of small mammal populations and communities in Steppe ecosystems of the Caspian northwest coastal area and Eastern Mongolia

Omarov K.

摘要

The responses of populations and communities of small mammals have been studied under different grazing regimens. It is shown that overgrazing and grazing restriction can have a considerable impact on the population status, demographic structure, and alspecies composition of small mammals in the Caspian northwest coast area (Nogai Steppe) and the steppes of Eastern Mongolia

Applied Problems of Arid Lands Development

On the conditions of maintaining the ecological balance on gas and oil fields

Aytekov M.

摘要

The concentrations of radionuclides responsible for radioactive contamination have been determined in an oilfield area based on the example of the Duzlak oilfield, where a gamma survey was previously conducted. The collector and drainage channel bordering the area is shown to lack effectiveness. An evaluation was given for travertines as a construction material. Measures for isolating the salts of radioactive and other elements that accumulated in the considered area are proposed.

Effect of the elemental composition of soils on the reproductive organs of permanent crops in relation to the altitudinal gradient

Vlasova O., Magomedov G.

摘要

The qualitative composition and quantitative content of mineral substances in the soils and fruits of Prunus armeniaca L. and Malus domestica Borkh. cultivated in the environmental conditions of the plains and foothills of central Daghestan has been estimated. The adaptation of apricot and apple trees to the natural factors of the lower foothills results in higher sugar concentrations in their fruits in comparison with trees growing on plains; the apricot and apple trees growing on lower foothills concentrate more Ca and P, while the contents of K, Na, Mg, and Cu in their fruits are reduced. Plants of the same species growing on soils with different contents of mineral substances differ by the total content of macro- and microelements in their fruits but accumulate roughly equivalent levels of P, Na, Ca, Cu, Ni, and Pb.

Extremophilic microbial communities of saline soils and their diversity in the regions of the Caspian Depression

Khalilova E., Kotenko S., Islammagomedova E., Gasanov R., Abakarova A., Aliverdieva D.

摘要

The microbial communities of alkali-saline soils and halophytes of the Caspian Depression regions have been studied for the first time. Over 40 species and forms of bacteria have been revealed. Along with a wide variety of soil microorganisms, bacteria of the genera Bacillus and Salimicrobium are the main components of the extremophilic microbial communities; their detection is one of the indices of the taxonomical structure determination, which is closely related to the ecosystem type.

Comparative analysis of the morphometric signsvariability and vitality of two Jurinea ciscaucasica (Sosn.) Iljin coenopopulations

Magomedova N., Adjieva A.

摘要

A comparative study of the morphometric traits and vitality of Sarykum and coastal Jurinea ciscaucasica coenopopulations, revealing higher results than for those from the seaside. The quality of life of the Sarykum coenopopulation is generally high, while the other is low and its depressive character is an alarming symptom that requires further monitoring studies.

The dynamics of mobile iodine forms in components of arid ecosystems of the Western Caspians

Gadzhimusieva N., Saidieva A.

摘要

Multiyear studies on the dynamics of iodine accumulation and migration processes in the soil–plant system are summarized. The characteristics of seasonal rhythms of iodine consumption by natural vegetation and agrophytocenosis are given, and the role of soil humus in the accumulation of mobile forms of iodine are defined. Indicators of the seasonal cycle and the dynamics of the outflow of mobile element forms from soil to plant vegetative organs are described. The reserves of total iodine forms indicate potential enrichment with mobile forms and the elimination of iodine deficiency of the soils of the Western Caspian Sea region.
