Abstract
The relevance of the study is due to the need to scientifically comprehend the performing, composing and musicological contribution of the outstanding Karachay-Balkar singer Omar Otarov (1916-2002) to the development of national folklore and national culture in general. The scientific novelty of the article is determined by the fact that for the first time the object of research was a unique collection of folk songs, compiled in accordance with the repertoire of Omar Otarov. The study is based on a complex methodology, which includes such types of analysis as historical-literary, cultural-historical, textual, interpretative, comparative, as well as classification and typology. The analysis carried out showed the genre and style richness of the Otarov's repertoire, which includes songs from the epic monument "Narts" and the historical and heroic epic; ritual-mythological songs, ballad-type songs, lamentation songs, lyrical and wedding songs, comic songs, as well as songs intended for children. In order to show the artistic and aesthetic value, the author of the article analyzes the entire list of folklore texts.
