To create effective tools for the diagnosis and evaluation of the mechanical properties of newly created or acquired coatings and adhesive, it is necessary to have good knowledge. The methods of determining of the mechanical characteristics of coatings and adhesive were studied. The current trends in the development of coatings were noted.
