Abstract

Methods are presented for charge preparation during manufacture of foam glass-ceramic by firing a charge of opal-cristobalite powder and sodium hydroxide at 850°C. The main material specimen properties are studied in relation to prior action on a charge of hydrothermal treatment at atmospheric and elevated pressure. A correlation is established for test methods with a change in charge silicate modulus and its effect on a reduction in average material density, and also consumption of the more expensive component, i.e., sodium hydroxide.
