The evolution of the community and collective identity in Russian history
Abstract
this article discusses the key features of the peasant community at different stages of its existence. It is noted that the first communities were created during the period of Kievan Rus, however, various historical events, one way or another, had a significant impact on it. For example, against the backdrop of the abolition of serfdom in Russia, the living conditions and duties of peasants changed, but such communities were not completely eradicated. They ceased to exist only in connection with the creation of collective farms, however, rural settlements that are actively engaged in agriculture exist in Russia today. As part of the analysis, the author formulated the conclusion that the village society is a powerful symbol of Russian culture, which has a very long history and national spirit. This spirit finds its manifestation in the steadfastness of overcoming all the hardships of peasant life, as well as in the predominance of the collective spirit over the individual. In this regard, the author notes that in communities, collective interests always prevail over the interests of an individual, and the implementation of collective activities is considered in such communities as the main goal of activity, which does not include the achievement of personal wealth. It is obvious that the study of such communities is of high research interest, since they have not only a fairly long history, but also very specific features, largely due to the territory of residence of Russian peasants, their living conditions, climate and relationships with the authorities, the presence of a number of duties.

The world of penal servitude, prisons and exile in the literary and journalistic legacy of N.M. Yadrintsev
Abstract
the purpose of the article is to reconstruct the ideological heritage of N.M. Yadrintsev in the field of prison science, penal servitude and exile in second half of 19th century. Based on the methodology of the “new intellectual history”, the article shows that N.M. Yadrintsev, trying to denounce the negative consequences of penal servitude and exile to Siberia, drew on a wide statistical and factual material in his numerous publications the tragic consequences of the penitentiary policy of tsarism. This publication also shows that the expediency of the immediate abolition of the exile-hard labor system and its terrible impact on the society of the native region contributed to the analysis of N.M. Yadrintsev of many factors in the application of this system of punishments. The authors found that the literary and journalistic heritage of N.M. Yadrintsev includes a very diverse narrative of the prison and exile-hard labor issue. Secondly, as our modest analysis of individual fragments of the ideological world of the Siberian enlightener showed, scrupulously and comprehensively N.M. Yadrintsev studied exile and hard labor in its impact on the Eastern outskirts. Thirdly, in the newspaper, magazine, literary and even scientific style, the famous Siberian denounced all the pathologies of the policy in the sphere of the execution of the punishment of tsarism.

England: from battles at sea-to naval warfare, from echelon-to the linear fleet
Abstract
the issue of war at sea was not new, there were many collisions on the water in history, but they were all just a competition and a test of strength. In England, for a long time, the navy has become a vital and determining tool on the basis of which foreign policy and the welfare of the state were built. The policy of the Court and Parliament parties, Tories and Whigs, respectively, expressed in the concepts of "oak doors" and "balance of power policy" was largely the result of a clash of commercial, land interests, as well as the position of the Royal Navy establishment. In this paper, the process of forming concepts and doctrines for the use of the fleet as a separate kind of military force, and not only as a transport component of the ground forces, will be considered. This study will be based on a cluster of written historical sources and studies reflecting the genesis of the strategy and tactics of the Navy in the context of the studied issues, using retrospective, comparative, systematic, typological and other methods of historical research. In connection with this aspect, the process of forming the tactics of the navy, as a separate institution, and not the cooperation of the shipowners of the king and the grouping of the monarch's ships, respectively, will be studied.

On the question of the influence of Voluntary Fleet flights on the trade of the south of the Far East in the 80-90s of the XIX century
Abstract
the article is devoted to the study of the influence of the activities of the Voluntary Fleet on trade in the Amur and Primorye in the 80-90s of the 19th century. It is noted that the establishment of a regular maritime communication between European Russia and its Far Eastern ports contributed to the socio-economic development of the southern regions of the Russian Far East and led to serious qualitative changes in the region's trade. The article emphasizes that one of the most significant results of the activities of the Voluntary Fleet was the partial reorientation of the market of the Far Eastern outskirts of Russia to domestic goods. Moreover, the products of Russian factories and plants began to be delivered not only by Russian entrepreneurs, but also partially by foreign companies operating in the region. These changes even led to a discussion about the need to limit the free port regime in the Amur region and the introduction of customs duties on certain foreign goods. Russian entrepreneurs, having received the opportunity to deliver goods to the Far East by sea, managed to increase their trade turnover here, although at that time they could not yet compete on equal terms with foreign merchants. And, of course, consumers have felt the positive changes associated with the activities of the Voluntary Fleet. Commodity prices in the region have declined slightly. Residents of the region now have the opportunity to purchase domestically produced goods that are familiar to them.

The position of American libertarians on American-Soviet relations in the 80-90s
Abstract
this article analyzes the publications of the press of the Libertarian Party of the USA, which express the attitude towards the confrontation between the USA and the USSR. The purpose of the study was to trace how the opinion of libertarians correlates with the position of the American establishment – first of all, the Republican Party, which is close to libertarianism. To implement his plans, the author turned to both materials from the periodical press and official documents, as well as pre-election statements by well-known politicians from the libertarian wing. The analysis of libertarian views on the problem does not lose relevance in the light of current events and allows us to understand the worldview of representatives of this movement as a whole. This position is of particular interest in the light of statements by US officials regarding the USSR and Russia – both in the eighties and in our time. First of all, we are talking about President Ronald Reagan, who has been called a moderate libertarian more than once. Certainly, the libertarian movement still has little influence on the political life of the United States, but one of the important elements of libertarian propaganda remains the topic of isolationism of US foreign policy, which is important in modern conditions.

The Khakassia union of artists in the first years of the republic
Abstract
the article considers the peculiarities of artistic life of Khakassia in the early 1990s through the prism of the history of formation of the Republic of Khakassia. Transformation of Khakassia into the Republic served as a basis for greater independence and development of culture, creative unions and the Union of Artists of Khakassia in particular. The concrete facts show the ambiguity of this period, which consisted in the coexistence of opposite trends in ideological campaigns and the practice of real artistic life. Along with the dominance of the practices of socialist realism and the formation of the collections of museums and galleries mainly by the works of artists of this very direction, we note the active participation of artists of a new direction, generally called "avant-garde", and subsequently referred to the direction of "neoarchaic", "archaeoart". We observe the active participation of these artists in numerous exhibitions both in the region and outside it. The conclusion is made that with greater involvement of the Union of Artists in the work with the Ministry of Culture of Khakassia it could receive more funding, rather than live by their own intensions.

Еlection campaigns in the Soviet province (on the example of elections to the Vologda City Council in the winter of 1930-31 years)
Abstract
the article is devoted to the study of the specifics of election campaigns on the example of a provincial city of district significance. A feature of the election campaigns of that time was not only the absence of a secret ballot, but also the creation of polling stations according to the territorial production principle. An analysis of the sources showed that at the initial stage of the election campaign, the attitude of the population towards the re-elections of councils was rather indifferent. On the whole, this attitude was overcome through the efforts of the Soviet and party bodies, which found expression in a fairly large number of questions asked and speeches at meetings. The article shows the results of the turnout at the reporting and re-election meetings, the composition of the corps of elected deputies and candidates for deputies of the city council in terms of their social status, gender, party membership. In the course of the study, facts were revealed of the withdrawal of candidates for deputies from the lists prepared by the party and trade union organizations of enterprises, and, conversely, the nomination of their own “unplanned” candidates by voters. At the same time, some of these candidates were elected contrary to the opinion of party leaders. This allowed the authors to conclude that at the beginning of the 1930s, the alternativeness of elections at the grassroots level of the Soviet system remained, when the voting result was not finally predetermined. Thus, based on documentary sources, it is shown that by the beginning of the 1930s, despite the difficult socio-economic and political situation both in the country as a whole and in the region, voters did not completely lose faith in the popular character and democracy of the Soviet authorities, although its actions have been criticized.

Ethnographic photographs of the turn of the XIX and XX centuries as a source on the Bashkir national wrestling kuresh
Abstract
the article is devoted to the study of ethnographic photographs depicting the Bashkir national wrestling Kuresh in the conditions of traditional culture. The purpose of the article is to analyze the content of the photographs of the French traveler Paul Labbe, who visited the Ufa province in 1898, and the outstanding Russian scientist S.I. Rudenko, his photographs of 1906. The significance of the research lies in filling the historiographical gap on the topic of the article by referring to visual sources. It was revealed that in the frames of both authors, the action takes place in nature, the wrestlers compete right on the grass in casual clothes, surrounded by fellow villagers and guests from other villages. According to the clothes of the wrestlers and spectators, the fashion of that time can be traced: dark beshmet, white chekmen (worn with a belt), various headdresses – kalpak, burek, white felt hat and cap that came from a non-ethnic environment. The democratic nature of the course consists in the presence of the same clothes for the wrestlers and spectators, the organization of the fight not on a separate podium, but next to the people, under their control and with their judging, prizes to the winners prepared by local craftswomen. P. Labbe's photo fills in the text of his diary entries, S.I. Rudenko's shots complement and visualize his text.

Development of cage fur farming in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra in the second half of the 1940s-1950s
Abstract
the article, using an archival array of documents, discusses the features of the development of cage fur farming in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra, from the second half of the 1940s to the 1950s. Being a part of the district's fur and fur preparations, fur farming, thanks to the adoption in the late 1940s normative legal act by the Council of Ministers of the USSR, experienced accelerated growth throughout the 1950s. The author provides statistical data in dynamics, on the number of fur farms, the number of animals in them, the volume of preparations in skins and in rubles. Comparing the influx of foreign currency with the harvesting of wild furs, the author comes to the conclusion that the same rapid skew of the gross fur product in favor of the production of caged fur farming reached 60% of the total volume of fur harvesting in the district. Analyzing the reasons for the success of breeding animals in captivity, the author comes to the conclusion that such growth was ensured by the shortage of labor resources of the district. Fur farming made it possible, without allocating a significant number of workers, to ensure the fulfillment of the state procurement plan and increase the material well-being of collective farms. Ultimately, by the end of the 1950s, cage fur farming brought in, on average, more than 20% of the total income of the district's collective farm. In an attempt to get away from the monotony of harvested furs, under pressure from a decrease in international prices for the production of silver-black fox skins, measures are being taken to breed minks and blue foxes. Among other things, data are provided on incentive measures that also contributed to the growth of fur farming in the district.

Perry Anderson and his concept of European absolutism
Abstract
the article examines the concept of European absolutism of the British-American neo-Marxist historian Perry Anderson. His views on absolutism in general and European absolutism in particular have been widely disseminated and have had a significant influence on modern Western humanitarian thought. The aim of the article is to reveal the main content of Anderson's conception of absolutism. This goal also determines the novelty of the proposed article. In modern Russian historiography Anderson's ideas about absolutism have not yet received proper coverage. The authors, revealing the essence and content of Anderson's views on European absolutism, note their innovative nature, based on the synthesis of Marxism with the achievements of Western humanitarian thought of the XX century. This allowed Anderson to create a flexible concept of European absolutism, which allowed to convincingly explain its specificity and national-regional features. The authors note that this approach allowed Anderson to become one of the founders of the modern interpretation of European absolutism in modern Western humanitarian thought. The practical significance of the article lies in the introduction of previously understudied historiographical sources. The materials contained in the article can also be used for further research on this topic and in the course of study in the history of the Middle Ages and the historiography of general history.

Abstract
the purpose of this article is to consider the history of the emergence and spread of the sect of eunuchs in the Tauride diocese in the second half of the 19th century, the emergence of the first sectarian communities, as well as the relationship of sectarians with local church and secular authorities. The following methods were used in the work: induction and deduction, the historical and chronological method, the method of a systematic approach. The methodological basis of the study was based on the principles of historicism, scientific character and objectivity. In the course of the study, the following results were obtained. The sect of eunuchs appeared before the founding of an independent Taurida diocese in Berdyansk district. Basically, they were immigrants from different provinces of the Russian Empire. Official church and state policy was aimed at limiting sectarian activity. According to the results of the study, the corresponding conclusions were drawn: eunuchs in the Tauride diocese in the second half of the 19th century were one of the most common sects. The long absence of church supervision and the changeability of secular policy towards sects had a favorable effect on their rooting. After the founding of the diocese, the local clergy made significant efforts to counter sectarian propaganda. As a result, it was possible to significantly prevent the spread of eunuchs.

The Ottoman-Safavid War in the Caucasus in the 1578-1590s
Abstract
the article deals with the causes, course and results of the Ottoman-Safavid war of 1578-1590 on the basis of historiographical material. The authors analyzes the military-political confrontation between the two Muslim states in the last third of the 16th century, and the place of the Caucasus in this struggle. According to the authors, the sharp struggle between these states was accompanied not only by mutual religious persecution and efforts, but often by long wars. The authors believe that the extremely violent conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Safavid state was based not only on the religious factor, but also on the desire of the parties to control the most important international trade and transport routes. The determining factor capable of providing an advantage to one side or another was precisely the possession of the Caucasus. The authors made an attempt to reveal the place and role of the Caucasus in the strategic plans of the two great powers. According to the authors, the Caucasus was one of the theaters of military operations, which was due to its strategic and geopolitical significance. Since the confrontation directly concerned the Caucasus, both powers relied on the support and assistance of the Caucasian rulers.

Theodore Roosevelt – the «progressive» politician and «reformer»
Abstract
the article focuses on the analysis of the USA president T. Roosevelt's activity, whom some American historians found an outstanding, energetic and prominent politician of the beginning of the XX century, and others – a protege of big business. The United States’ domestic policy after 1901, the year he became the president, is of particular attention. T. Roosevelt's domestic policy arouses interest among researchers, because some considered him a "bomber" of trusts, others considered him a demagogue who did not aim at destroying big business, but at extending the powers of the president. His policy of "big stick" expresses his specific approach to international affairs and the implementation of the country’s foreign policy. T. Roosevelt did not want to advertise his connection with big capital; however, during his presidency the banking houses continued to prosper and getting rich.

R. Kipling and Imperial War Graves Commission in Great Britain
Abstract
this article examines Rudyard Kipling's work for the Imperial War Graves Commission in Great Britain. It traces his role in the institutionalisation and operation of the Commission, where Rudyard worked practically from its foundation in 1917 until the end of his life. During the eighteen years of his work he made a significant contribution to the creation of memorial sites dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. Drawing on a number of foreign sources, including those of Kipling's contemporaries and colleagues, it is concluded that through his work on memorial inscriptions, his public relations work and his oversight of memorial construction, Rudyard Kipling helped realise the central purpose of the Commission to commemorate over one million people killed in the First World War, thus directly affecting the historical memory of the First World War. Kipling's authority and his work in promoting the activities of the Commission by writing pamphlets helped to defend its basic principles and gain widespread support.

From the history of the activity of the Semipalatinsk resettlement region at the beginning of the 20th century (based on the reports of the resettlement party)
Abstract
on the basis of the identified materials, the organization and activities of the Semipalatinsk resettlement region at the beginning of the 20th century are considered. In the early years of the 20th century, the resettlement of peasants from the European part of Russia to the Steppe region was massive, sometimes even chaotic. Plots in the Semipalatinsk region were dealt with quite willingly, but there were cases when migrants, having achieved enrollment in any of the plots, left it a year later. In order to rationally resolve matters, the entire region was divided into four subdistricts. This zoning determined the functional orientation of the resettlement party and systematized the work of employees. In order to systematically perform work, employees were distributed to sub-districts, where they included the foreman, topographers and hydraulic engineers. One of the reasons for the slowdown in land allotment in the Semipalatinsk region was the vagrancy of settlers from site to site and constant petitions for cuttings. In organizing the resettlement business, special attention was paid to the financial side of the issue. The aspect of allocations was considered at different levels and required close attention, and this concerned both part of the organization of the resettlement process, and the resettlers themselves. Special attention was paid to the arrangement of resettlement farms.

Dating, using the method of astronomical chronology, writing the tragedy of Aeschylus «Prometheus bound»
Abstract
the article examines, using the method of astronomical chronology, the astronomical symbolism contained in the text in order to obtain an absolute independent dating of the writing of Aeschylus's tragedy «Prometheus Bound». The method of astronomical chronology used in the study allows us to determine, using astronomical calculations, the historical moment of time, according to a verbal description in works of literature or a graphic image on architectural monuments, the configuration of the starry sky, namely the location of the Sun, planets and Moon in the constellations of the Zodiac belt. In the course of the historical and chronological study, a verbal description of such a configuration of the starry sky was revealed. In the course of the subsequent, mathematical and astronomical calculation and visual comparison, using computer technology, the dating of the writing of the tragedy «Prometheus Bound» was obtained. The absolute, independent date established in the calculation does not correspond to the accepted one in the official chronology, but it is in excellent agreement with the dates of the creation of other surviving dramatic works of Aeschylus, obtained in the previous historical and chronological studies of the author. It also agrees with the dating of the years of the playwright's life, the battles of the Greco-Persian War and the eruption of Mount Etna, mentioned in the text of the tragedy, obtained by the author in the study of the «Parian Chronicle».

On the legal status of prisoners of war by the beginning of the 20th century
Abstract
in the proposed article, we consider and define some of the nuances in relation to the legal status of prisoners of war by the beginning of the 20th century. The basic provisions that existed at that moment in relation to the theory of military captivity, as well as its individual nuances, are considered. Moreover, the basic legal principles of the legal status of prisoners of war were established by the norms of the era of the Great French Revolution – in a decree of 04.05.1792 and in a resolution of the Convention of 25.05.1793. All these acts were based on the principles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. And the main provisions of the status of a prisoner of war, indicated in the designated documents, were subsequently adopted by international conventions and legal acts of European states. The article notes the fact that the theory of military captivity was progressive and democratic, and the considered concept was duplicated in the internal acts of the states of Europe (for example, in the Regulations on prisoners of war in the Collection of Laws of Russia in 1914). In practice, in general terms, the real situation of prisoners in the wars of the early 20th century (up to the First World War) corresponded to the conventional one.

Formation of religious space in the Amur region before the beginning of the 20th century
Abstract
this article analyzes the process of formation of religious space in the Amur region before the beginning of the 20th century. The religious space of the Amur region is a unique phenomenon that has evolved over many centuries. The Amur region is considered one of the most multinational and multicultural regions. The author defines the religious space as a part of the social space, limited by a designated territory and consisting of believers who join the other world through religious norms and ritual practices. The purpose of the study: to study the history of distribution and features of each of the religions that existed in the Amur region until the beginning of the 20th century, to identify the interaction of various religions in the Amur region and their influence on the culture and history of the region. The author identifies three stages in the formation of the religious space in the Amur region: the period of dominance of archaic beliefs, the emergence of Christianity and religious pluralism. Each stage is considered in detail, including archaeological and statistical data that help to restore the history of ancient beliefs and cults. On the territory of the Amur region there were various forms of syncretism of cultures and beliefs. This happened due to many years of contacts between the peoples living in the region. Despite the fact that there were many religions on the territory of the Amur region, harmonious relations were maintained between believers.
