International anti-war movement in the second half of the twentieth century: historical and political analysis
Abstract
the article attempts a historical and political analysis of the international anti-war movement of the second half of the twentieth century. Based on materials from Russian archives, as well as the works of domestic and foreign researchers, the main stages of the formation and development of this movement are characterized, the causes of its ups and downs are revealed. A number of archival documents, previously unpublished both in Russia and abroad, have been put into scientific circulation. The paper considers the prospect of regeneration of the international anti-war movement. The authors conclude that the continuing threat of unleashing a nuclear war, the West's continuing attempts to establish a unipolar world in the international arena, the refusal of the North Atlantic Alliance states to provide Russia with security guarantees, an unprecedented arms race, as well as the emergence of new threats and challenges in their entirety will lead to a revival in the future the international anti-war movement.

New forms of consolidation of the Chinese community of Southeast Asia at the beginning of the XXI century
Abstract
the Chinese community of Southeast Asia (Southeast Asia) has historically been one of the most important players in regional international relations for several centuries, not only in the ASEAN countries, but also in the adjacent regions of East Asia and Oceania. In recent years 2010-2022, Huaqiao's interests also extend to the States of Southeastern and Equatorial Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Congo). The reason for such success, despite the Asian crisis of 1997-1998, the global economic crisis of 2008, the coronavirus pandemic, the events in Ukraine, competition with Chinese corporations and others, lies in the specifics of the reorganization of the management of Huaqiao corporations with the introduction of a quality audit not only in the business segment of the activity of holdings, but also in the leadership and middle links of the community of this national minority. The article deals with the problems of consolidation of the Chinese community of Southeast Asia at the beginning of the XX1 century. The aspects of innovative approaches to the integration of the national minority in the ASEAN countries are analyzed. The specifics of Huaqiao's experience after the events of the Asian crisis of 1997-1998 are revealed. A forecast of the prospects for the development of the soft power of the Chinese minority in Southeast Asia is given, taking into account modern complex problems of international relations.

The US-Somali diplomatic crisis around the Soviet base in Berbera (1974-1975)
Abstract
this article is devoted to the US-Somali diplomatic crisis that unfolded in 1974-1975 around the point of logistics of the navy of the USSR in the Somali port of Berbera. In the 1970s the problem of the militarization of the Indian Ocean, which escalated after the start of the construction of the American military base on the Diego Garcia Atoll, was quite acute, and both the USSR and the United States actively criticized each other after any increase in their presence in the region. For the United States, the "Soviet base" in Berbera was not only a justification for building a base on Diego Garcia, but also posed a threat to American positions in the Indian Ocean, which meant, on the one hand, the need to bring the problem to the attention of the media, and, on the other hand, minimize the Soviet presence in Berbera. The main problem for the United States was that it was extremely difficult to prove the existence of a "Soviet base" in Somalia - all arguments, from satellite images to Soviet ships in the port of Berbera, were only indirect arguments. The loud statements of US President Ford in August 1974 and US Secretary of Defense Schlesinger in 1975 about the "Soviet base" basically fueled the crisis and complicated the already difficult relations between Washington and Mogadishu. US intelligence services, although they recorded activity in Berbera and were able to establish that there was a warehouse with Soviet-made anti-ship missiles, also could not report anything that could turn the tide. The article shows the main stages of the Berbera crisis and the ways of its peaceful resolution, to which both the American and Somali sides made efforts.

The US position on the Polish-Ukrainian war and the eastern borders of Poland in 1918-1919
Abstract
the article examines the position of the American leadership on the issue of the Polish-Ukrainian war of 1918-1919. The author draws attention to the desire of the US government to limit Poland's territorial claims in the east and the extremely negative assessment of the attempts of the Polish leadership to de facto secure these territories by military means. The work also reflected the lack of a clear position of the White House on the status and borders of the UPR and WUPR. The factors that caused Washington's decision to support the temporary occupation of Eastern Galicia by the Polish army are analyzed. The intention of the US government to consider the issue of Ukrainian territories only as part of the problem of Russian-Polish demarcation is emphasized.

Modern domestic historiography of the Soviet youth policy in the end of the 1920s – 1930s
Abstract
young people, being the most mobile, adaptive and at the same time progressive part of society, are rapidly responding to any changes in the socio-economic, political and cultural spheres. However, the disunity and disintegration of modern youth make this social group the most susceptible to negative influences, which determines special attention to it from government and public structures. Interest on the part of modern researchers in the youth policy of the Soviet state draws attention to the turning point in the history of the country - the end of the 1920-1930s, when its leadership began to carry out socialist modernization. In this regard, the subject of the article was the analysis of dissertation research by domestic scientists of the early 21st century, who identified youth, youth movements and Soviet youth policy in the period under review as the object of their research.

Dating, using the method of astronomical chronology, writing the tragedy of a Eschylus «Eumenides»
Abstract
the article investigates, using the method of astronomical chronology, the astronomical symbolism contained in the text in order to obtain an independent dating of the creation of Aeschylus's tragedy «The Eumenides». The study used one of the tools of historical chronology, namely the method of astronomical chronology, which establishes an independent astronomical dating of events that are in temporal connection with recurring cosmic phenomena. This method makes it possible to determine, with the help of astronomical calculations, the historical moment of time, according to a verbal description in works of literature or a graphic image on architectural monuments, the configuration of the starry sky, namely the location of the Sun, planets and Moon in the constellations of the Zodiac belt. In the course of the historical and chronological study of the text of the tragedy, a verbal description of such a configuration of the starry sky was revealed. In the course of the subsequent, mathematical-astronomical calculation and visual comparison, using computer technology, the dating of the writing of the «Eumenides» tragedy was obtained. The received absolute, independent date does not correspond to the date of staging in 458 BC accepted in the official chronology this tragedy, but is in excellent agreement with the dates of creation of other surviving dramatic works of Aeschylus, obtained in previous historical and chronological studies of the author.

Representations of the city of Omsk and surrounding territories in A.R. Gaines’ travelogue diary
Abstract
representations of the imperial authorities about the Asian outskirts in the second half of the 19th century. were constructed in the logic of internal imperialism, verbalized in the formula: the Asian part of the imperial space is Russia's own East. Omsk and the adjacent territories of the Steppe Territory, in the travelogue diary of the imperial expert A.K. Gaines are positioned as a constituent element of "their own East", requiring from the "man of power and culture" adequate decisions on the organization of territorial and mental space, as well as the introduction of effective management practices. The emotionally expressive intonation characteristic of travelogue as a genre creates the necessary prerequisites and opportunities for reformatting the research “optics” from a simple statement and description of the plot outline of the journey to a critical rethinking of stereotyped assessments of the functions and purpose of Siberian cities broadcast in historiography. The reference to the texts of travelogues also makes it possible to single out the cultural component in the characterization of the colonization process and its individual episodes, which is not the prerogative of official records management materials, which fix attention mainly on events, and not on the states, feelings and reflections of the authors and characters. Disclosure and deconstruction of the discourse of A.K.Gaines, expand the research perspective aimed at constructing a complex and multifaceted picture of the ideas of the Russian bureaucracy and social forces about the likely models for organizing administrative management on the eastern outskirts of the empire, the channels of communication between the authorities and social groups of the colonized region, the role of cities in the organization of the imperial space.

of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Anti-Cuban activities of the Cuban diaspora in the United States
Abstract
the US policy towards Cuba has always been greatly influenced by the powerful anti-Castro Cuban-American lobby, consisting of Cuban exiles and immigrants who settled mainly in Miami from the first years of the revolution. For many years the lobby has opposed any attempts to normalize relations. The strength of the diaspora became especially evident when the Cuban-American National Foundation (CANF) was established in the 1980s. However, the loss of this organization's influence by the beginning of the 21st century, the empowerment of the agribusiness lobby with its allies in Congress and the beginning of Babak Obama's presidency, sympathetic to the normalization of relations between the two countries, led to a change in US policy towards the Island of Freedom. Nevertheless, remains the tendency of the USA to pursue an unfriendly policy towards Cuba. However, recently it has been associated more and more often with the US domestic political interests, which is in many ways a result of the anti-Cuban conservative lobby activities.

The Order of Catherine II as the embodiment of the policy of enlightened absolutism: legal problems
Abstract
the author analyzes the Order of Catherine II in the article, draws attention to the fact that since 1649 the question of the revision of legislation has not been raised by the rulers. Having convened the Laid commission to discuss the Order, the Empress set out to find out the opinion of all estates about existing problems, and to create legislation that would be directed to the benefit of the entire state and every subject. Guided by the ideas of the enlightenment, it was she who formulated the principles of the rule of law, thought about social policy, the restriction of serfdom, the prevention of crimes, and the form of government. The laws were supposed to be decisive for every member of society, but understandable for everyone, and aimed at the good. Without thinking about limiting the absolute monarchy, as a form of government, she wanted to make a European country out of Russia, spreading the liberal views of the French Enlightenment to it. Being of German origin, she was able to prove by her deeds that she had become her own by her deeds. Of course, many things could not be realized, which is explained by the political and social system that existed in Russia in the XVIII century. The conservative–minded nobility did not contribute to the solution of the most important and acute issue for our country – the preservation of serfdom. However, some projects suggest that some representatives of the ruling and privileged class realized the need to abolish serfdom and, moreover, for the first time raised the question of private ownership of peasants on land.

Categories and methodology of the civilizational approach in modern discourse in the philosophy of history
Abstract
the diverse contradictions of the modern world, growth of dangerous international conflicts, social polarization, clash of trends of both globalization and national isolation are an evidence of another serious crisis in the entire world order. The growth of entropy on a global scale raises the problem of the lack of a holistic and systematic understanding of the processes of socio-historical development, actualizes the need to analyze theories that study the development of large socio-cultural communities. In this regard, it is important to study socio-philosophical and philosophical-historical theories and views, united in a civilizational approach. The dominance of the formational approach in Soviet historical science ended in the late 1980s. And in 1995, the Russian Academy of Sciences recognized that civilizational theory can serve as one of the conceptual principles in textbooks for schools and universities for analyzing and describing the historical process. The subject matter of our article is the essence of the civilizational philosophical and historical concept. The subject and goal are investigation of discourse, in the space of which there is developed a methodology and the categories of the civilizational approach to history are analyzed. Here are used general theoretical research methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, interpretation. On this basis, there are formulated the following tasks: to study the essence and methodology of the civilizational approach; to consider the relationship between the concepts of "civilization" and "culture"; to study and evaluate the discussions connected with modern philosophical and historical research around the most important categories on which civilizational theory is based; to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of this theory, the possibility of its integration with other conceptual approaches. The article shows that within the framework of the theory under consideration methodological differences are significant. There are identified several varieties in which the key categories of the civilizational concept are interpreted differently. The materials of the article can be used both in further scientific research and in teaching practice.

To the question of the development of the industrial industry in the Voronezh province in the middle of the XIX century
Abstract
the paper analyzes the economic development of the Voronezh province in the middle of the XIX century, during the development of industry and the construction of the railway. This article attempts to characterize the main operating factories and plants operating in the years 1860 - 1890, as well as to analyze the volume of production and supplies to other regions. On the territory of the Voronezh province, there was a fairly diverse industrial production: oil mills, fat-baking, leather, woolen, as well as tobacco and cloth factories. However, before the construction of the railway linking the province with other large regions, production was carried out at the local level, in connection with which some factories and plants were closed and suffered losses. A new milestone in the development of the economy in the region is determined precisely by the increase in production turnover for deliveries to other regions, thereby the province is actively developing, a diesel locomotive repair plant, a metallurgical plant and others appear. Also, in the 90s. 19th century in connection with the industrial upsurge, the pace of industrial development in the Voronezh province is accelerating. If since the 1870s. by 1890, only 11 enterprises appeared, which included three small breweries and mead factories, two tobacco factories, two cologne factories, a diocesan candle factory and a vinegar factory, then from the 1890s. there is more active industrial development.

Peculiarities of functioning of collective farms of the North-West of the RSFSR in 1943
Abstract
one of the most controversial topics in the study of history to this day remains the Great Patriotic War, during which every region and every family in our country was affected. For many decades, many studies on the history of the Northwest have been published, but most of them concern the issues of the siege of Leningrad and the occupation of the western regions by Nazi invaders. At the same time, the consideration of the vital activity of residents of unoccupied areas remains poorly studied until today. It turns out a paradoxical situation: we know more about the occupied areas than about the areas free from German oppression. With all this, we must not forget about the role of the peasantry. In many ways, the successes at the front depended on the success of the activities of this part of the population. In particular, the year 1943 is important for the study as the year of a radical turning point during the war. Many hardships and hardships fell to the lot of the peasantry. The majority of the male population was sent to the front. Women and children had to organize the work of collective farms without any technical and horse-drawn assistance in order to deliver the plan on time. It was this year that issues were to be resolved not only to provide for the Red army, but also to develop their own farms, fill grain funds and raise children in wartime conditions. The main guarantee of success in this case, with all the difficulties, was to be the mutual assistance of the cities in the study area.

Russian educator surrounded by Regina Scientiarum: Antiochus Cantemir and Mathematics
Abstract
in life and searchings of Russian educator, poet and diplomat – A.D. Kantemir you can see the big role and importance of mathematics. Based on an in-depth historical analysis, the author concludes that mathematics was not only a personal preference in the center of enlightenment, but also lay the basis for his scientific and philosophical views, but his closest circle of friends, among them the brightest mathematicians of XVIII century – eloquent proof. Through the whole life of A.D. Kantemir carried a serious attitude to mathematics, regularly giving her free time even for countless diplomatic labors and illness. Despite the fact that the textbook on algebra, on which he worked for many years, has not survived to this day, nevertheless, it seems important to note his contribution to the spread of mathematical knowledge in post-Petrine Russia. The desire to involve especially the younger generation in the «Queen of Sciences», which harmoniously correlates with the general trends of European and Russian education, truly reflects his progressive views and educational ideals.

Data about Mari and Udmurt ethnic religions in works of researchers of the XVII century – the early 60s of the XVIII century: on issue of interpretations
Abstract
the purpose of this article is to continue recording the first data about beliefs of the Finno-Ugric peoples of the Ural-Volga region in historical sources. This time we are focusing on the works of researchers in the period from the XVII century to the first half of 60s of the XVIII century. This allows us to solve a number of problems: to reveal on the analysis basis some features of beliefs of the Mari and Udmurts during the period when ethnic religions of these Finno-Ugric peoples of the Ural-Volga region were fixed. The results obtained are necessary for a more comprehensive study of pre-Christian and pre-Muslim beliefs of the peoples of Russia. The first data about the Cheremis religion belongs to A. Olearius (1633-1639) who noted the Cheremis worship to God and the “devil” living on the Nemda River, and in addition, the existence of sun and moon cults. According to the author, N. Witsen (1664-1665) first recorded the deity Ilimu among the Cheremis which could be identified with the later Mari Ilma, the Udmurt Ilmar and the Baltic-Finnish Ilmarinen. It is interesting that J. Streis (1668-1669) mentioned the existence of the Cheremis cult of Beelzebub. The author supposed that the latter could probably be related to the Mari cult of Karmakay – the fly keremet (spirit). Russian authors fixed data about the religion of the Cheremis and Udmurts in the first half of the XVIII century. G. Miller (1733) pointed out for the first time that the Cheremis god Yuma was the same as the Finnish Yumala. G. Miller also described the Votyak (Udmurt) beliefs, in particular, the presence of special prayer houses – kual. In the early 60s of the XVIII century in the work of P. Rychkov the name of the supreme Votyak god was still not given, but there was a valuable remark that invoking God the Votyaks had used the words “osta kozmo”. The last formula was directly related to the image of the Udmurt god Inmar.

Development of the Amur region by Russia and foreign capital (50-60s of the 19th century)
Abstract
the purpose of this article is to study the interests of foreign powers in the Amur region in the 50–60s of the 19th century Russia at that time established itself on the Amur, the development and settlement of these lands began. The article deals with the question of how the relations between the Russian administration and foreign entrepreneurs in the region developed. The author focuses on the fact that due to the events of the Crimean War, English and French entrepreneurs in the 50-60s of the 19th century access to the Russian Far East was closed, while the representatives of the United States and German states were generally treated favorably by the Russian authorities. It is noted that the Russian authorities were interested in attracting them to supply the population and troops with the necessary goods, while providing various benefits. But despite this, the activities of foreign entrepreneurs working in the Amur region were strictly regulated and were under the control of the Russian administration. The article concludes that American and German entrepreneurs in the 50-60s of the 19th century played a significant role in the socio-economic development of the Amur region and the supply of necessary goods to the inhabitants of Nikolaevsk and Russian settlements on the Amur. The article also analyzes the reasons for the decline in the business activity of foreigners in the Amur region in the late 60s and early 70s of the 19th century.

Institutionalization of 20th century demography
Abstract
the formation of demography and its formation into an independent scientific discipline took place for many decades. Demography aroused interest not only among scientists, demographers, statisticians, but also among statesmen and politicians. They sought to regulate issues related to demographic policy, dynamics and factors of mortality and fertility of the population. The origins of demography as a science can be traced already in the process of studying population. The world has been interested in social problems since ancient times. Demographic behavior of the population was interpreted within the framework of such an approach as an integral part of behavior aimed at adapting to rapid and often unfavorable changes in the institutional environment.

The role of non-agricultural earnings in the life of peasants in the 1920s
Abstract
the purpose of this article is to study the role of non-agricultural earnings in the lives of villagers in the first post-revolutionary decade. The chronological framework of the study was the 1920s – the time of the formation of a new political and economic conjuncture, class breakdown, new beginnings in culture and everyday life. The departure of the 1920s was massive, seriously affected the state of urban unemployment and became one of the reasons for the beginning of urbanization. For many peasants, seasonal work brought a good income, although it was accompanied by certain difficulties of a domestic and family nature. The article analyzes the content of peasant letters to the authorities, which allow us to most vividly reproduce the picture of peasant everyday life after wars and revolutions, presents an analysis of the legal framework on issues of state regulation of waste to earnings, examines the peculiarities of the situation of citizens engaged in latrines in the labor market of the 1920s. In addition to economic factors, social factors also influenced the departure. One of them was the widespread idea that it is more profitable to have the status of an industrial worker, that it is better and easier to live in the city, that the problems of peasants for the authorities are secondary compared to the interests of workers in cities.

Changing the goals and objectives of the Japan-US Alliance in the 1990s
Abstract
this article examines the key changes in the institutionalization of the Japanese-American military-political alliance during the 1990-1999s. In the period after the end of the confrontation with the USSR, new challenges to regional security have become factors contributing to structural changes in the legal framework of military-political cooperation between the United States and Japan. The institutional system of the Japan-US alliance has expanded its capabilities through more active involvement of Japan in the issue of peacekeeping, taking into account close coordination with the United States. The package of bills officially adopted in Tokyo, on the one hand, demonstrated Japan's readiness to bear greater responsibility in solving international problems, on the other hand, constitutional restrictions and pacifism of the civilian population created a number of practical difficulties in the event of a real military conflict. As a result of the active Japanese-American dialogue, measures have been implemented that contribute in the long term to strengthening bilateral ties and adapting the military-political alliance to the challenges of the new decade. The bilateral Japanese-American Declaration of 1996 established Japan's commitment to pursue a policy of engagement in the settlement of situations in Northeast Asia.

Projects of social transformations of the Russian Empire 1813-1825
Abstract
every period of Russia's history has always been marked by a surge of reforms coming from the new government. The era of Alexander I, who was in power in the first quarter of the XIX century, is proof of this. The period of Alexander's reign falls into two parts – before the war with Napoleon and after. And in each of them, the emperor tried to carry out various kinds of transformations in order to improve, as he considered the life of his subjects. Also noteworthy are the social projects proposed by him, the attempt to implement which, having begun at the beginning of the emperor's reign, continued after the Patriotic War of 1812. About centric martyries of Late Antique Chersonesos – Early Byzantian Cherson
Abstract
late antique Chersonese – early Byzantine Cherson is a unique archaeological complex. On its territory, have been preserved monuments, which allow us to trace the elements of the development of Christian architecture. Centric Christian churches became one of the unique phenomena. They had martyrium functions and were built on the burial places of saints or “manifestations of God” (theophany), the appearance of a miracle. Their constructive feature was the orientation of the internal space to the shrine, which was located in the center of the architectural complex and was an object of worship. In Chersonesos-Cherson, the greatest interest have two objects. The suburban cruciform church, which known in literature as the Mother of God of Blachernae, was built on the territory of an early Christian cemetery, in memory of the martyrs who suffered during the period of persecution of Christians. The complex had the form of an equilateral cross, with doors, which were made in each of the parts of cross. The whole construktion was oriented on the center of the internal space, where were held specific worship. Later, the complex lost its centricity and was rebuilt into a church of traditional architecture: in the eastern part of cross was formed an altar space. Another unique architectural monument was the tetraconchinial theophanic martyrium. It was built on the site of the "appearance of a miracle" through the prayer of St. Bishop Kapiton. The building was a confluence of four semi-circles. Under the floor in the center of the structure were the remains of a limekiln. This furnace was associated with the legend of a miracle revealed through the prayer of St. Bishop Kapiton. The temple has retained the centric form during the whole history of functioning. Both of these complexes were played an important role in the religious life of the townspeople and represent a stage in the development of Christian architecture.

Historical and chronological study of documentary sources and dating «Eclipses of Thales»
Abstract
the article provides a comprehensive historical and chronological study of documentary sources and a catalog of solar eclipses relating to the reign of the last kings of Lydia and Media. The analysis takes into account the region where the hostilities between King Alyattes and King Cyaxares took place and the Ancient Galis River, the modern Kyzylyrmak River in Turkey, flowed. The purpose of the study, which uses special methods of historical research, is to find the date of the total solar eclipse predicted by Thales, one of the seven wise men of Ancient Greece, and described by Herodotus in his main work «History». According to modern data of historical chronology, it is believed that the «Eclipse of Thales» occurred on July 5, 585 BC. However, historical and chronological studies and dating by the method of astronomical chronology of the works of the playwrights of Ancient Greece and subsequent dating of the «Eclipses of Thucydides» and the «Parian Chronicle» showed the error of this date of the «Eclipse of Thales». A comprehensive historical and chronological study of documentary sources made it possible to determine the true date of the «Eclipse of Thales» – July 5, 1293 AD. The dating obtained differs from the accepted one in the historical chronology, but is consistent in time and events with the datings of the «Eclipses of Thucydides», the «Parian Chronicle» and the works of ancient Greek dramaturgy received by the author earlier.

Local book publishing in the cities of Tomsk Province in the late XIX – early XX century: historiography of the research problem
Abstract
the study of the history of the development of regional book business is one of the important tasks of modern Russian historical science. Research in this area is necessary, first of all, to assess the regional publishing culture due to the fact that Siberian book publishing is an integral component of Russian culture. The article was prepared in order to determine the historical foundations of scientific research of local book publishing in the cities of Tomsk province in the late XIX – early XX century in preparation of the dissertation "Local book publishing in the cities of Tomsk province in the late XIX – early XX century" for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences. Theoretical and practical aspects of book business and book culture are reflected in many works of specialists – articles, monographs, dissertations, indexes, collections of reports and speeches at conferences, etc. The basis of the historiography of the topic under study is the publications of the State Scientific Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (formerly the State Scientific Library of the USSR Academy of Sciences) devoted to book culture and book business in Siberia. Studies reflecting the history of the development of book culture beyond the Urals are either generalizing or focused on individual cities in the region. In scientific and historical terms, the problem of book publishing and book distribution, as well as the identity of local publishers, with individual cases, is poorly studied. The analysis of the historiography of the issue of local book publishing in the cities of Tomsk province in the late XIX – early XX century reveals a research gap involving the reconstruction of the development of printing in the region – the study of both the production process and the personalities of the owners of printing houses, and their comparative analysis.

The impact of the Alabama case on Anglo-American relations during the American Civil War
Abstract
British-American relations at the first stage of the war can be called contradictory. On the one hand, Britain observes neutrality and does not officially interfere in the war, but at the same time sympathizes with the Confederation and wants to weaken the United States, which in some cases almost leads to the deployment of hostilities. On the other hand, Lincoln's diplomacy leads to the signing of several treaties that favorably affected the development of British-American relations in the future and marked the beginning of their rapprochement. In addition, the United States plays a huge role in the export of goods to the UK, which makes the latter neutral in relation to the war. The article is devoted to such a problem of Anglo-American relations as the "Alabama question". The article analyzes the situation of the Confederacy during the American Civil War and the reasons for the rapprochement of the Southern States with Great Britain. The conclusion is made about the impact of the "Alabama Case", firstly, on the rapprochement of the United States and Great Britain in the future, and secondly, on the development of international law.
